Are you currently having a challenging time in life? Perhaps it’s a professional challenge of lack of work, or not feeling respected at work, or maybe you don’t like your work. Perhaps it’s personal relationships of an unfulfilling relationship or lacking a relationship. Maybe it’s a health challenge you are facing. And let us not forget the worldly challenges that can add stress to our daily lives. Regardless of what challenges you may be facing, there is always another way to view what you are going through with more love, compassion and gentleness for yourself and others.
As a positivity trainer, people often think my life is challenge free. My life is indeed pretty amazing as I am laser focused on looking for the gratitude in all situations, but I promise you, I too have challenges. Sometimes more than I’d like. However, I am dedicated to not letting my challenges take me out of a space of happiness and gratitude for any length of time. I consciously ask myself how do I feel. I then take notice when the challenge seems to be winning and I return to focusing on what I want rather than what I don’t want in my life. When I remind myself that challenges are an opportunity for growth and new ways of seeing things, the ‘sting’ of the situation lessens and I am able to see the beauty in the mess with hope and compassion.
Moving forward, I invite you to face your challenges with a winning attitude by:
Being aware of how you feel. Often when we are facing a challenge, we step straight into fear. We begin to see every possible way this challenge can worsen, take longer than we want and quite frankly, we often see the challenge far greater that it actually is. Pay attention to your feelings as through awareness of them, you can make changes. When you start to worry about the challenge, reframe those worries into a gentler more loving thought.
Be gentle with yourself through the challenge. Feelings of worry, frustration, anger, sadness, disappointment, etc. are all okay to feel. Honor them and be okay with being sad, hurt, angry etc. When you pause and honor your feelings is when you are able to move through them rather than stuff them. Being positive doesn’t remotely mean you don’t have negative feelings. It simply means you allow them to visit rather than have them move in. Honor how you feel.
Knowing the challenge is there to serve you rather than punish you. I would love to say I’ve never had that ‘why is this happening to me’ thought, but I certainly have. However, as soon as I step into the space of knowing my challenges are allowing me to grow and expand as a person, I am able to see it from a more empowered state of mind. See your challenges as ways to grow rather than ways to punish.
Focusing on gratitude. Again, feel your feelings as it’s important to feel them rather than stuff them. Along with that, focus on gratitude. It may be challenging to do at first or if you are facing a big struggle, however, it is possible and so very essential in helping you get to the other side. Look for the smallest reasons to be grateful in what you are facing and expand upon those feelings of gratitude. Train your mind to look for the good in all situations and with practice it will become easier and easier.
Mostly, my wish for you is to know that challenging times isn’t a reflection on your worthiness. You deserve to live boldly, love deeply, laugh loudly, hug intently and smile brightly. When you are able to see that your challenges are part of the equation of living life full out, is when life becomes better than you ever imagined it to be…challenges and all.
